What is Springraise?

Springraise is the first and only career sharing network. We don't provide you with job listings, we give you the power to see where your career has been and where it can go. We're here to maximize your career decisions, from taking a job in a particular industry to getting your graduate degree.

Springraise maps careers and shares the results with everyone in real-time. Therefore, you can not only see the progression of your career, but also compare it to others with your similar background. What's different about our company is that we've created an unparalleled platform that enables members the opportunity to share their career progression in a way that illuminates great ideas and new career opportunities while assessing market positioning of individual careers.

By sharing information on our site, our members put their careers in context and find answers to the questions they still have. They can:

• Enter full background and employment information (past and present)
• View the careers of others like you (in one click) and compare your career to theirs
• Perform scenarios to see future career prospects
• Contact others to learn how they made their career decisions

This is what is at the heart of the Springraise vision-–the kind of information sharing that will impact careers and place employees at the center of their career development, not employers.

Is sharing data on Springraise safe?

When sharing information about compensation in any community, there is always a risk that your employer could find out. Most employers have corporate policies that discourage sharing of compensation information with colleagues or with others outside of the company. We know these risks are real.

We also believe that openly sharing compensation information is the only way to maximize people’s careers. Other members of Springraise can not see your past or current Company and Title information so we make it difficult for an employer or colleague to see who you are. We also do not display your name or email address and you control what information you enter and, therefore, share. The more information members share, however, the more valuable that information is to everyone. So, all we can ask is that you participate as fully as you feel safe doing.

Does Springraise sell my information?

Our goal is to maximize our members’ careers over time. To do that we may take the information you entrust to us and sell it--in an anonymous, aggregated and/or individual format--to the companies that can use that data to improve or understand products or the career market.

• We do NOT plan to sell this information back to employers like Salary.com or Payscale.com do. That is counter to our philosophy.
• We will NOT sell your personally identifiable information (like your name or contact information) for marketing purposes or without your expressed permission.

In the future, we may offer a service to our partners (e.g. executive recruiting firms) that could allow them to directly and anonymously review member profiles with full information visible including Company and Title information. Doing so would help our recruiter partners find the right candidates (our members) for open positions, and we believe that benefits everyone.

Why was Springraise founded?

David Williams founded Springraise in 2007 after a surreal experience. After spending his career among several large and small companies, he was offered a position with a leading strategy consulting firm that exceeded his compensation expectations by 25%. He had used the leading salary calculators, talked to friends in strategy consulting, and had found a compensation range he thought would be right given his background and experience. When (happily) receiving his offer, he knew there was a gap in the career information marketplace. He subsequently turned down the offer and began building Springraise. The company “sprung” its beta in Spring 2008.

What are the company's core values?

We have four core values on which this company was founded. These values shape every decision we make--from the way we build and enhance our product to what business partnerships we develop.

Honor the trust members place in us
Simply stated, this means "Members First." Our members trust us with their compensation information. We honor that trust, and we are dedicated to using that information for their benefit first.

Openness
We believe that sharing compensation information is good. Why? Because sharing and openness will allow employees to maximize their careers at every step. Openness helps people to choose their profession and maximize their compensation at the same time. No more sacrificing money for happiness.

Transparency
No surprises. Our members shouldn't be surprised by anything we do. Our goal is to disclose what we do with members' information, how we make money, as well as all of our partnerships on the site.

Wow!
When people see our site, we want them to think, "Wow!"

Because trust is our most valuable asset, we want to know if you ever hear or see anything that concerns you about the ethics of how we operate Springraise or the website. We want to hear from you personally.

What is the future of career development in a Springraise world?

We envision a world where employees are at the center of their career progression. Employee sharing of compensation is open without fear of discrimination or retribution by employers. We envision a world truly built on meritocracy; where people get paid what they’re worth based on background and experience. We envision a world where people don’t have to sacrifice money for happiness in their careers.

We are building a platform that helps people find mentors who have walked a chosen career path and are willing to help others navigate the pitfalls. Ultimately in a Springraise world, people will see multiple career paths based on the steps others have taken before them. And because of Springraise, each person will be able to choose the path, and walk the path, that achieves his or her career goal.

How does Springraise make money?

We have two revenue types: advertising and anonymized data sales. We have advertising on the site that benefits our members and complements our services. We take the compensation information members share about their careers, and sell it in a blinded, aggregated and individual format to our partners (i.e., companies that are developing or selling products or services to members). These products or services may include school rankings publications, career advice books, or executive recruitment. We do not rent, sell or share personally identifiable information for marketing purposes or without explicit consent. Because we believe in transparency, we tell our members exactly what we do and do not do with their data.

Does Springraise have advertising?

Yes. We wrestled with whether to have advertising on the site. We have chosen to do so because we do not have job listings. Many advertisements that appear on the site are from companies that help people find particular jobs or have job openings. We believe that kind of advertising is beneficial to our community rather than intrusive.
