How To Cope When You’re Smarter Than Your Boss
When you see that you are more intelligent than your boss, then your job is to figure out what type of boss you have.
Type 1: the one that will hold you down because he/she is threatened by your talent. In this case, you find a mentor who can help you out of that situation without damaging your reputation internally. You always want doors open to you.
Type 2: the one who recognizes that he/she can directly benefit from your brilliance. These types are often very smart and/or savvy politically. You can ride their shine because they will also promote you upward. The collaboration creates two stars in the company.
Now, remember that intelligence doesn't always trump experience. It's the combination of the two that generates true innovation. If you are more intelligent than your boss, that doesn't mean you have nothing to learn from him/her. Read your situation well, and your political savvy will pay off...whether you stay at your company or move on.
