If unprepared, salary negotiation in an interview can be scary. You won’t know what to say, whether the offer on the table is good, or how to respond. Being taken by surprise is not the way to go.
As we say quite a bit here, you have to prepare. You must be prepared for the salary negotiation before going into the interview. You never know if you’ll have a situation like the one in the video below where I was asked on the spot how much I made at my current job by my interviewer. Luckily I was prepared. Check it out…
Having basic elements of information can make your salary negotiation end in your favor. I knew what my raise was from my current job before going into the interview so I could add a premium on top of that when asked. Sure I was quick on my feet, but because I had the information I needed, I was able to get an offer for a much higher salary than I otherwise would have. You can do it! Just be prepared with the right information.
